Parable of the Cookies

To what shall I compare this generation?

It is like a small boy whose neighbor lady baked cookies for him every Sunday - always the same plain, crispy cookies.

Time passed. The neighbor lady moved away and another family moved in next door. On the very next Sunday, the new neighbor lady baked a batch of cookies for the boy. But she had the audacity to add chocolate chips to the recipe. The boy angrily refused to eat them, stormed out of the house, and never visited next door again.

Let him hear who has ears.

The interpretation of this parable: It addresses the absurdity of a parishioner throwing a hissy-fit, or even bolting from the congregation, because the new pastor adds a few decorative, "high church" touches (such as chanting the liturgy) while faithfully proclaiming the same Gospel as his "low church" predecessor.
