Hillary wins in N.H.

I have to admit that I'm glad Hillary beat Barack Obama in the New Hampshire primary yesterday. I've been through agonies since Obama won last week's Iowa Democratic caucus.

The image of Obama as a candidate for president - particularly given the uninspiring crop of Republican hopefuls - makes me shudder. Why? Not because of his color, his politics, or even his age as such. I simply shudder because Obama is a first-term senator with 2 years of Federal government experience. All he has proven he can do is campaign, which is not the same thing as leading a country.

Does anyone remember Jimmy Carter? You know what I mean - that guy who came out of nowhere to win the Georgia governorship, then turned right around and started running for President and won before anyone really knew who they were voting for. Do we really want another President like him, who finds out after the campaign is over that he doesn't know how to govern? Do we want another president who may not know how to make political deals, even with a Congress controlled his own party? Do we want another president who blunders into one disaster after another - at this time of day! - and who finally blames the country for his lack of leadership? Do we really want to pay that price for the next four years? As Nathan Miller points out in Star-Spangled Men: America's Ten Worst Presidents, the White House is no place for on-the-job training!
